Lesson Details and Materials

This lesson is focused on best budget practices and is a continuation of the previous lesson, Budgets Made Easy, Part 1. This lesson will take approximately 90 minutes.

Lesson Objectives – by the end of the session, the participants will:

• Know how to explain the rationale behind each budget line item
• Be able to identify budget line items that should be explained further in the budget narrative
• Be able to achieve alignment among the general proposal narrative, budget, and budget narrative
• Know how to create a budget and budget narrative the costs of which can be easily matched by the SF-424 Application for Federal Assistance
• Be familiar with common differences between budgets/budget narratives in federal grants as compared to those in foundation grant applications
